Setelah beberapa tahun lalu mengeluarkan dua album yaitu Gorilla Minor (2010) serta Hummingbird (2013), kali ini Local Natives mengumumkan album teranyarnya bertajuk Sunlit Youth. Album tersebut rencananya akan dirilis pada 9 September 2016 mendatang via Loma Vista Recordings/Infectious Music.
Sebelum merilis video lirik untuk single teranyar di album Sunlit Youth berjudul ‘Villainy’, Local Natives terlebih dulu mengunggah video yang berjudul ‘Past Lives’. Video lirik untuk single ‘Villany’ tersebut telah dirilis pada tanggal 6 Juni kemarin oleh Radio Beats 1 yang dibawakan Zane Lowe. Video berdurasi 3 menit 44 detik ini disutradari oleh Andrew Droz Palermo.
Ryan Hahn, sang gitaris, bercerita mengenai proses pembuatan album terbarunya serta cerita dibalik single ‘Villainy’;
“A lot of the excitement in making this new album came from discovering how to make songs in different ways. You start thinking, “What do I want to hear?” Forget about what we’ve done and what people expect. This is a song that I would want to hear. Lyrically, “Villainy” is about realising that you have the ability to change your situation, that you can start again everyday. We applied that to how we made music this time around. We wanted all the new songs to have a different energy, to challenge ourselves to do something different each time.”
